Aimee Burton is on a quest to create freedom and well-being in her life, and inspire others to do the same. Aimee is a dog-momma, a small-town girl and a lover of nature, good food, and people. She is a connector, a teacher, and a community-builder. She loves creating space for people to come together to share their joys and challenges, to learn, and to be lit up with possibility.
What do you BELIEVE in? Love, having fun and smiling. I believe in making good choices, almost all of the time. I believe we should all vote. We live in a democracy. Seriously. I believe in treating people, animals, and the planet with respect. I believe in eating good food. I believe we have more control over our lives than we think we do and we are the architects of our own happiness. I believe small actions add up to big results over time. I believe in the incredible natural healing abilities of the body. I believe I feel an Annie Lennox song bubbling up inside me 😉
How does LOVE show up/present itself in your life? I am super grateful to be surrounded by love. On a daily basis. The verbal and non-verbal communication between me and my man. When I look at my dog, Isik, I can feel my heart expanding. Through my relationships with my family and friends. The incredible people that are my colleagues but are much more like family.
Who or what INSPIREs you? I am inspired by people who are sharing their gifts with the world. By nature; the beauty, power, and mystery of it. I am inspired by ideas, constantly! My Univera family inspires me on a regular basis, as well as the yoUnlimited community, and the many amazing groups and organizations doing good work and making Victoria such an awesome place to live. Saavy, successful female entrepreneurs inspire me. Stay-home-mom-rockstars inspire (and amaze) me. Vulnerable men inspire me. And many, many, individual people who are pursuing their dreams or making a difference somehow, too many to name (and I’m afraid I would forget some), I hope you know who you are!
How do you, or can you, SERVE your community? My hope is that in my day to day interactions, I am leaving people with optimism, happiness, and knowing they are important and heard. I make an effort to use people’s names in stores; I think it brightens their day. I am usually quick to say ‘yes’ if a friend asks for a favour and I go out of my way to make things easier for others. I attempt to live a lifestyle that is easy on the planet. I contribute to organizations that are doing good work. I think the biggest way I serve is by nurturing relationships with people, and connecting people who I feel need to be connected – community is very important to me.
What does it mean to you to SURRENDER? Surrender means letting go of attachment; letting go of how I think things should be. It is knowing that although I am consciously designing my life, there are also bigger forces at work that I know very little about. Surrender also means letting go of being right, and having everything figured out. Receiving. Letting others take care of me. And allowing myself to be vulnerable.
